The winner of Tuesday’s $30 million Oz Lotto draw has finally been found, with the new multi-millionaire from Tasmania only checking his ticket on Thursday despite knowing someone from his state had won.
Officials from The Lott said the man from Burnie, located on the northwest coast, was “left speechless” after finding out about his newfound fortune.
“As the winning Oz Lotto entry was not registered to a player card, the identity of the ticket holder had been a mystery,” officials said.

“Lottery officials had been waiting for the winner to check their ticket and make contact.”
When speaking to officials, the winner confessed he had heard someone from Tassie had won the $30 million jackpot but said, “I didn’t for a moment think it was me”.
“I only found out when I just checked my ticket now,” the man said.
“That’s good. I can’t believe it.”

The new millionaire said he would use the money to look after his family.
“It gives me money for a new house and to take care of my family. I want to make sure everyone’s comfortable,” he said.
He also said the life-changing win wouldn’t stop him from playing Oz Lotto having already purchased a ticket for next week’s draw.
The winning entry was purchased at Upper Burnie Newsagency & Post Office.
The newsagency’s manger Jeremy Turner said he was thrilled to have sold the lucky ticket.
“We last sold a division one winning entry about two years ago – it was a $2 million prize in TattsLotto. Customers have been saying we’re due to sell another big winning ticket … and now we have,” he said.
“Congratulations to our winner. We wish him all the very best with his prize.”
The Burnie man held the only division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1539 on August 15.
The winning numbers were 23, 6, 27, 41, 8, 24 and 47 and the supplementary numbers were 4, 13 and 28.
